About the Journal
Studia Orientalia Electronica (StOrE) is a peer-reviewed, Open Access multidisciplinary journal publishing original research articles and reviews in all fields of Asian and African studies. The main areas of interest are: African Studies, Arabic and Islamic Studies, Semitic Studies, Altaic Studies, East Asian Studies, South Asian Studies, Tibetan Studies, Arabic Linguistics, Assyriology, Egyptology, and Japanese Studies.
Studia Orientalia Electronica follows the peer-review guidelines for scholarly publications of the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies. All research articles are subjected to double-blind peer review conducted by at least two independent referees. The process is conducted anonymously, and the editor ensures that the author and referees follow the given instructions. The statements from the reviewers and the publication decision are usually sent to the writer within several months of submission.
Editorial Process:
- The editor-in-chief reviews article submissions for an initial evaluation of their relevance and quality.
- Together with the editorial board of Studia Orientalia Electronica, the editors identify two qualified persons to assess and write a statement on the article.
- The reviewers are PhD-level researchers or other experts, external to the editorial board and independent in relation to the manuscript to be reviewed. The invited reviewer is not the author’s relative, supervisor, or close colleague, and they have not co-authored a publication with the author within the last three years.
- While the review process is carried out anonymously, the manuscript and the reviewers’ contact information are archived in the journal system for possible future need and reference.
- The reviewers are asked to assess the article on the basis of the following:
- Originality
- An understanding of issues in the pertinent literature
- Interdisciplinary significance
- Theoretical significance
- Clarity and conciseness in the overall argument
- Quality of the writing
- Each reviewer writes a statement in which he/she proposes the manuscript to be either rejected or accepted with minor revisions.
- Based on the reviewers’ statements, the editor-in-chief makes the final decision on the acceptance of the manuscript.
- The editors inform the author of the acceptance/rejection of the manuscript and forward the reviewers’ statements to the author. The author should finalize the manuscript according to the requested changes in a given timeline.
The journal follows the peer review instructions of Finnish Association for Scholarly Publishing and the guidelines "Responsible conduct of research and procedures for handling allegations of misconduct in Finland" issued by Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity (TENK). All peer-reviewed articles of the journal are indicated with the peer-review label, which is a registered trademark of the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies. The Federation of Finnish Learned Societies issues the right to use the label to publication series based on applications.
