Call for Papers: Mirator 2/2026, Otherness and Identity in the Medieval Mediterranean, ed. Tiago Queimada e Silva
The thematic issue of Mirator 2/2026, to be published in December 2026, will explore Otherness and Identity in the Medieval Mediterranean. The Mediterranean, as a crossroads of cultures and societies, provides a fertile ground for examining how identities were constructed, negotiated, and contested in the medieval period. We invite contributions from scholars of all disciplines that engage with the ways in which otherness functioned as a factor in identity-building across the medieval Mediterranean. Papers may address diverse forms of identity—religious, ethnic, socio-economic, or early manifestations of national identities—and should aim to problematise the dynamic interplay between self-identification and othering.
