Abstrakti

Technological advancements have led to the New Space Age characterized by the cost-efficient and rapid production of satellites as well as increasingly accessible launch capabilities. As a result, near-Earth space has become a focal point for a wide range of national and private actors. This development is reshaping society and introducing global challenges, including space debris and emerging legal and democratic concerns. This article introduces near-Earth space as a physical environment governed by space weather phenomena and outlines how it is studied scientifically. It also provides an overview of the current state of the space sector.
