Abstrakti

AFinLA was established in 1970 to increase knowledge about language learning and teaching and to support the development of language didactics. Established in 2016, the Research Network on Language in the Workplace aimed at introducing new kinds of topics alongside these established focus areas. The network also aimed at bringing together researchers, teachers, students and professionals interested in the use of language in workplace contexts, thus promoting the societal impact of research on professional language use. In this article, we shed light on the ten-year history of the Research Network on Language in the Workplace, and, in particular, its early stages. We reflect on what kinds of national and international research and educational traditions the network was initially connected to, and how these connections have shaped the research within the network. Finally, we also consider the current state and future visions of the network.
