Abstract

Business Management Consulting – A Young and Growing Field – A profession can be defined as a group of people who share the same educational background, the knowledge base related to that education, and a set of socially-approved professional and aesthetic norms. The article examines the ways in which the idea of a profession has been shaped in business management consulting. The author sees the field as a chain of values formed by all the activities needed to fulfil the buyer’s expectations. The professionalization process underlies this chain of values. The problems in the field of business management consulting are high personnel turnover and a lack of appropriate training. These problems can only be solved through professionalization.
