New methods in adult education and educational equality
Abstract
Equality has been a traditiona! goal in adult education. Educational equality has not, however, been something that is self-evident. Instead, it is a complex, multi-layered state of being with different degrees of attainment. New technology is both promising and threatening. The latter aspect presents itself in the creation of new economic and social thresholds and when it further increases the lead that educationally privileged have on their lesser educated peers. The article examines the characteristics of individual-centred society and democracy as challenges for adult education. While new technology is presented as a threat to equality, it is seen more in the light of opportunities it has to offer.
