Abstract

Finland is undergoing a shift from traditional institution-centred thinking to student-centred thinking. We are moving towards individuality at a rate appropriate to the individual’s own pace. Multi-form teaching, modularity, personally tailored syllabi, demonstration tests, and study counselling are all new to adult education. Studying is turning into a student-oriented networking process interlinked with educational institutions, the working life, and other learning environments. With networks being developed into learning environments, mere co-operation relationships will not suffice. We need co-operation with a basis relevant to learning. The article ponders over learning, networking, and the connecting of education to the working life. In the matter of organisation of networking study, the author considers it essential to focus study planning, guidance and assessment in ways that are sensible from the point of view of studying. Unless this is done, there is the possibility that individuals engaged in studying are left to their own devices and end up with poor results.
