A new species of Ormyridae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea) parasitizing a gall-making weevil on twigs of the bunge hackberry tree in China

Ormyrus coccotori sp. n. (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Ormyridae) is described from China. It is a bivoltine larval ectoparasitoid of Coccotorus chaoi Chen (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) that is a serious pest in most parts of China as a gallmaker on twigs of the bunge hackberry tree Celtis bungeana Blume (Ulmaceae). This is the first ever report of amember of Ormyridae being parasitic of weevils. O. coccotori thus has potential for biological control of the weevil. Type specimens are deposited in the Insect Collection Museum of the Chinese Academy of Forestry.
