Abstract

The object of this paper is stereotypes created in Lithuanian online debates about ethnically mixed marriages, particularly Lithuanians' marriages to foreign-born spouses. I came to this topic while l was doing rescarch on Finnish-Lithuanian and Greek-Lithuanian families for my PhD thesis. Though the study has not yet been completed, it focuses on strategies for cultural adaptation and identity negotiation within the mixed family from the perspective of the Lithuanian woman. ln addition to the semi-structured interviews collected, I have looked for material online: in virtual discussions in chat rooms and free comments on journalistic articles published on popular Internet portals. I thus approached the issue of mixed families, drawing on certain ,aspects concerning it, expressed in the prevailing opinions online.
