RATIONALITY AS AN ORGANIZATIONAL
PRODUCT
Administrative Studies, vol 11(1992): 3, 152-162
A perspective which conceptualizes organizing
as a process of reality construction reveals a possibility of considering rationality not as an organizational attribute but as an organizational
product. The focus of organizational studies
should then shift from examination of rationality
to interpretation of its production. It is argued
that such a shift would be followed by a change
in researchers' main roles: from simplifying and
legitimizing to problematizing and unmasking.
