Top managers’ perceptions on e-leadership opportunities and challenges in IT-service firms
While employee perspectives on remote work have been investigated, top managers’ views on e-leadership challenges and opportunities remain scarcely studied. This qualitative study, following the Gioia method, investigates how top managers in IT-service firms perceive the opportunities and challenges of e-leadership. Research data was gathered from top managers representing large IT-companies through semi-structured interviews (N=33). In the findings, we identify (1) communication, (2) leadership, and (3) management as functions through which e-leadership opportunities, challenges and tensions emerge. We introduce a new theoretical framework for understanding e-leadership opportunities, challenges, and tensions.
