Special features of third sector leadership in the personal work goals of leaders of national patient and healthcare associations
The aim of the research is to identify the special features that are associated with third sector leadership by exploring the types of personal work goals established by the leaders of patient and healthcare associations. Research data was gathered from 19 interviews with executive directors, and the analysis produced five work-related content categories that were summarized into three levels of work goals – society, organization and individual. Both the society and organization levels are highlighted, indicating that the form of organization – private, public or association – is important in terms of personal work goals. In addition, the research demonstrates that third sector leadership combines both associational specificity and managerialism.
