Abstrakti

This study analyses the now-discontinued Finnish Partnership for Environmental and Natural Resources Research (LYNET), which aimed to promote cross-sectoral collaboration. The data consists of thematic interviews and an online survey.

LYNET was established to pool the resources of research institutes without the merger of participating institutes. It represented adaptation to RDI policy goals favouring more horizontal research structures. The theoretical analysis focuses on how networks are used to advance both shared and individual interests as well as the dual role of research programmes in the research landscape — as sources of diversity, but also as potential drivers of fragmentation.
