Jan Fast's dissertation delves into the history of a German transit camp for soldiers located in Tulliniemi, Hanko, during 1942–1944. Due to the near-complete absence of archival records, the history of the camp is explored through archaeological research, interviews, and photographs. By combining various sources, the study paints a picture of daily life in the camp and the German soldiers stationed next to the small Finnish town. The research on Tulliniemi in Hanko serves as a fresh example of conflict archaeology, a field currently enjoying widespread interest from both the academic community and the general public.
