Legal disciplines and legal scholars in the midst of globalisation
The article explores various topics as candidates for new legal disciplines. These topics can be divided into three categories: Human (indigenous and Sámi law), environmental (climate–biodiversity and global environmental law), and regional (polar and Arctic law). The idea is to explore the extent to which these new candidate topics have become institutionalised as legal disciplines and what their functions are. It seems clear that all of these new disciplines are emerging as a response to the transnationalisation of law and the increase in events and actions that are regulated at the three levels of domestic, European and international law, but in ways that make it difficult to place them exclu-sively within only one legal system. Even if current legal thinking is still primarily located within the nation-state, the mere emergence of these new disciplines tells us that the future structures of legal thinking will likely be something quite different.
