Law and research integrity
The work for the promotion of responsible conduct of research in Finland is based on the Guidelines of the Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity (the TENK Guidelines). These Guidelines, as well as other similar documents elsewhere in the world, have arisen as a reaction to problems of research integrity, mainly in empirical research. They, however, apply to non-empirical research as well. The purpose of the article is to study the requirements of responsible conduct of research in the context of doctrinal study of law. The author argues that all the types of violation against research integrity that are enumerated in the TENK Guidelines may come up also in the study of law. However, the non-empirical nature of legal research protects the researcher from certain violations, but on the other hand increases the temptation to commit other ones.
