Abstrakti

The profile of Eastern Finland’s wellness tourism can be described as weak and inaccurate. In the same time, from the resource view point, Eastern Finland is rich of lakes, aquatic environments and pure nature. Unfortunately, this rich potential is scarcely utilized. In nature tourism, the question is: would the traveller gain additional value from his/her lake images/experiences, for example, with meanings created through activities and action or through new high-quality innovations, where the local environment and culture would act as catalysts for the creation of innovations and for product development strategies? Can a new innovative concept of Lake Wellness be an answer? In the development process of wellness tourism in Eastern Finland the fundamental pillars of Lake Wellness may follow the ideas of the expanded wellness model of Müller and Lanz-Kaufmann (2001). The fundamental pillars of wellness can fulfil the needs of spirit and mind, health, healthy cuisine, inner and external beauty and relaxation and comfort not forgetting unguided or guided activities.
