Peer reviewing in scientific publishing is a widely researched theme in many disciplines. In translation studies, however, it has not gained much attention. This paper examines how peer reviewing is described on the public websites of 38 translation studies journals, specifically if and how reviewers are instructed to carry out their reviews. In addition to the examination of journal webpages, an email was sent to the journals’ editors asking about the reviewing policies of the journals. The results of the study show that the reviewing policies (for example instructions) are not often available on the webpages and that the editors prefer double-blind and single-blind review instead of open review.
