Abstract

The paper as an initial attempt at the further onomastics study of this type concerns the language analysis of the names of cemetery alleys from the parish cemetery in Busko-Zdrój in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship (Holy Cross Province). A springboard for the following research is the assumption, the structure of the cemetery as a necropolis is similar to the public space of a city, in which the names of streets and squares function. The author of the paper thus relying on the results of these days popular analyses of the hodonyms’ and agoronyms’ systems in the particular cities and towns from the historical and synchronic aspects attempts to interpret the names of cemetery alleys (necrohodonyms) in context of the urban reality and from the perspective of the language picture of the world, which is revealed in the language by its individual language users in specific culture and language circles. On the basis of the exploration’s results it can be seen unambiguously, the names of the cemetery alleys have the same functions as the hodonyms and agoronyms in the cities or towns.
