Kanonit ja tasa-arvo

Abstrakti

The relationship between equality in the Church and canonical tradition has been under public discussion recently in Finland. The public discussion is often polarized and biased. Metso conducted a small survey on the topic of canons and equality. Their relationship is usually portrayed as conflicted and problematic. While regarding salvation and personal value everybody should be considered equal in the Church, the very structure of the Church is hierarchical and is based upon its Head, Christ. Metso argues that critique towards canons is partially misleading because it assumes that both secular and Chuch legal procedures (canons) are founded upon same principle of equality. Yet the danger of clericalism is present whenever canons are not put under careful scrutiny.
