Euroalueen pysähtynyt kasvu ja Keynesin paradoksi

Tämä katsausartikkeli analysoi empiirisin menetelmin euroalueen rakenteellisesti heikkoa talouskasvua jälkikeynesiläiseen makrotalousteoriaan ja Euroopan integraation historiallis-insitutionaaliseen tarkasteluun tukeutuen. Teoreettisena ydinargumenttina esitetään, että euroalueen institutionaalinen rakenne tukahduttaa kotimarkkinakysyntää enemmän kuin se pystyy stimuloimaan korvaavaa kysyntää muualta maailmasta. Empiirinen analyysi vuosilta 1984–2024 antaa tilastollista tukea argumentille. Euroalue näyttää olevan palkkavetoinen kasvuregiimi eli talous, jossa palkkamaltin vaikutukset ovat talouskasvun kannalta nettonegatiiviset. Hidas palkkakehitys heikentää paitsi kulutuskysyntää myös investointien kasvua euroalueella. Vaihtotaseen rakenteellisen ylijäämän päälle perustetun deflatorisen kasvumallin haitat eivät näytä rajoittuvan vain valuuttaunioniin. Se on myös keskeinen epävakauden lähde globaalille taloudelle. Lopuksi esitellään yksi ehdotus suunnan kääntämiseksi.
