Sosiologia on siis yleissosiologinen lehti, jossa julkaistavat artikkelit edustavat suomalaisen nykysosiologian koko kirjoa. Sosiologian jufo-luokitus on 2.

Lehti käyttää Tieteellisten seurain valtuuskunnan vertaisarviointitunnusta, joka kertoo, että julkaisun vertaisarviointi on toteutettu kansainvälisen tiedeyhteisön noudattamien laadullisten ja eettisten vaatimusten mukaisesti.
https://journal.fi/sosiologia/article/view/159734 Why Historical Research Frameworks Matter for Sociological Methods and Decolonial Approaches? Empire and Nation Compared with Intra- and Inter-Imperiality 2025-03-10T14:06:57+02:00 Juho Korhonen
Sociology faces many obstacles in coming to terms with its so-called imperial entanglements. In this article, I address one of the dimensions of this problem. Much like archival sources present their own histories of making and organization that researchers should be aware of, so too do disciplinary research frameworks carry their own histories and historical metaprinciples of organization. I juxtapose two different ways of organizing and framing sociology's disciplinary focus historically. I call these the empire and nation framework and the intra- and inter-imperial framework. Through this juxtaposition, I argue for the importance of methodologically explicitly recognizing and justifying our choice of different historical research frameworks with which sociology can operate.
2025-03-13T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Sosiologia https://journal.fi/sosiologia/article/view/159735 Researching " with " Through Practice-Research Methodologies 2025-03-10T14:11:03+02:00 Neal Peter Cahoon
Stemming from the Harawavian term "becoming-with", the transformation of the preposition "with" into a hyphenated postposition when building new theories from phrasal verbs is an emergent phenomenon within academic discourse. "-with" is often used to indicate more considered, reciprocal, and relational methods of doing research. In this paper, I extend these ideas to consider "with" as the dynamic praxis of withing in order to further address issues related to multispecies ethnography and more-than-human ethics in the contemporary moment. In doing so, I aim to strengthen connections between the arts and the social sciences by showing how a pragmatic and creative practice-research methodological framework could be beneficial for social science researchers undertaking their knowledge inquiries with more-than-human communities.
2025-03-13T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Sosiologia https://journal.fi/sosiologia/article/view/159736 A Weberian Analysis of the Perspectives of Individuals with a Migrant Background Regarding Joining Military Service in Finland 2025-03-10T14:15:39+02:00 Ilona Bontenbal Reetta Riikonen Jarkko Kosonen
This paper investigates the motivations and perceptions of individuals with a migrant background regarding their participation in mandatory conscript service in Finland. We employ Max Weber's theoretical framework on social action, which delineates four distinct archetypes: traditional, value-rational, instrumental-rational, and affective social actions. Our analysis draws from 36 interviews conducted with individuals with migrant backgrounds and analyses the meanings these individuals associate with their decision to engage or abstain from conscript service within the context of Finland's national defence system. We find that participation can be explained through a mix of overlapping social actions, and that none of Weber ́s categories alone sufficiently explain the motives to participate. The role of traditional social action in explaining the participation of individuals with a migrant background was particularly central as many considered military service as an important tradition of men in Finland uniting both peers and generations. For many, service also functioned as a means to an end, such as for example getting employed, thus serving an instrumental-rational purpose. Value-rational motives, on the other hand, were found to be particularly related to gender norms and nationalistic norms of performing military service being the proper action for men. Although emotions and affections also played a small role in the reasons for participation, their significance was found to be limited in explaining participation.
2025-03-13T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Sosiologia https://journal.fi/sosiologia/article/view/156395 Internationalisation and its discontents 2025-01-20T23:54:49+02:00 Anuhya Bobba
Openings and Discussion
2025-03-13T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Sosiologia https://journal.fi/sosiologia/article/view/159737 Conceptual Groundwork for Addressing How We Are Together 2025-03-10T14:36:18+02:00 Mikko J.
