Abstrakti

A long-term dispute in the Balkans seemed pacified when Prespa agreement was ratified between Greece and Republic of Macedonia. Consecutively, the Greek blockade of North Macedonia’s access to NATO and EU was lifted. Foreign powers’ efforts to convince the Macedonians of the agreement’s consequences and mutual accusations of hybrid warfare were notable, yet, the problematics of the concept of Macedonia derives from the region’s complex history. The decisive phase in 2018–2019 revealed deep antagonism between the two states, and among their citizens. In Autumn 2020 the agreement was already semidead: though legally binding, the interpretations varied, and foremost, its implementation stalled halfway.
