Vaikutusperusteisen operatiivisen ajattelun (EBAO) sotataidolliset lähtökohdat
Abstrakti
The concept of EBAO or EBO is based on the assumption that it is possible to combine both direct and indirect approaches in same concept. This is problematic as a starting point because these approaches are based on different scientific explanations and research traditions. It is highly probable that all indirect based and more or less cultural level -based considerations are treated as they would be a larger part of normal military activities, although this may cause some misunderstandings and misuse of the data collected from human interaction. Therefore, all cultural and socially constructed human behaviour should be treated through different scientific research paradoxes. In the field of military studies there should be a more tolerant attitude towards culturally constructed sources. We should be ready to use the texts of T. E. Lawrence more openly and make more efforts to associate the cultural level approaches to the more traditional sources for detecting real effects against any adversaries. Hence, it is argued in the article that to be able to combine these two approaches, major obstacles of two different paradigms must be handled. The true scope of the matter is revealed after some practical game-examples are given. The game of chess is considered as a normal military approach to any challenge presented. This kind of approach does not give answers to a strategic level problem-setting and therefore a wider range of modes of thought are needed. It is suggested in the article that the Chinese game “Go”, could be a more appropriate way to handle the process of thinking in such complex situations. Anyhow, within the frame of reference of military science, EBAO is more than a necessary concept in order to solve the problems that western military thinking has been facing since the end of the Cold War period. Therefore, it is important to be able to detect the true nature of incompatible but essential elements, before they are totally isolated from the concept.
