Yet despite the close relationship between particular apparatus and major advances in science, instruments have been largely neglected in the literature on the history of science and technology in Finland. Drawing on the examples of stereoscopic X-ray fluoroscope and anoptral contrast microscope, two instruments constructed by the Finnish inventor and scientist Alvar Wilska (1911–1987), our article discusses the early stages of scientific instrument making in Finland. In particular, our article is concerned with the creation of stereoscopic X-ray fluoroscope and anoptral contrast microscope, as well as the local and international context within which these two instruments were developed and put to use.}, number={3}, journal={Tekniikan Waiheita}, author={Kaataja, Sampsa and Vilén, Timo}, year={2011}, month={syys}, pages={5–20} }
