Future perspectives and scenarios on the existence and impact of written media in Inari Saami: The major role of the digital newspaper Anarâš aavis in language revitalization

In this article, we look at journalism in Inari Saami from a future perspective. In particular, we look at the newly established Anarâš aavis digital newspaper and its role in language revitalization. Our aim and research question is to construct future scenarios for Anarâš aavis using the Futures Table model. This is a topical issue, as the Inari Saami community is having to change its strategy in order to secure funding for its publishing activities, i.e. publishing the magazines Anarâš and Loostâš for members of the Anarâškielâ Servi association. With the future in mind, we look at the situation prior to Anarâš aavis and at the end of the first three months of publication, based on our experiences as editors. We also look at a way forward to increase our publishing activities. We will make use of the feedback received by the editorial team and the discussions with readers and potential contributors. As a result, we propose three possible future scenarios: the current model, a model that is closer to a printed newspaper, and a hybrid of the two. The main goal is to secure publishing activities in Inari Saami from the perspective of language revitalization.
