Present day information society rely on expertise. However, there is no consensus about the foundational character of expertise; what is knowledge base or value base of expertise. According to Kant “Enlightenment is man’s leaving his self-caused immaturity” which direct understanding of the role of education in Western countries. The motto of Enlightenment – Dare to know! – is simple but not easy to follow because “[i]t is so comfortable to be a minor!“ Tensions within the Enlightenment entail crisis of the Enlightenment which enforce us to re-evaluate the foundations of Western thinking as, for example, Horkheimer, Adorno and Marcuse explicated. In the present paper re-evaluation is based on analysis based on the philosophy of science which allow us to specify the roles of experts. Especially we will focus our attention of epistemic and practical aims of expertise which entails changes in the focus of the epistemic and the moral responsibility of experts.
