Abstrakti

Soldiership and competence Military studies is comprised of different fields of science, each with its own focus. However, they all have a common object – the military. Military studies include the practical Clausewitzian approach. The connection of this approach to the traditional academic approach to research can be clarified by analysing the structure of scientific theories. Military studies provide the military with core professional knowledge. In studying the military profession one must bear in mind that a military profession is a practical profession. In military pedagogy the notions of soldier and soldiership are of central importance. What kind of soldiers and what kind of soldiership is needed in future? Changes in warfare force us to rethink soldiership. The notion of action competence is fundamental in this task. The notion gives both a conceptual and methodological foundation for military pedagogy. The notion allows us to formulate all the most general principles of military pedagogy, but at the same time it orientates military practices/training. Artikkeli on suomeksi.
