Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • 1) The title page is to be submitted separately from all other files and must include the following:
    • Authors’ names, their academic degrees, present affiliations
    •The corresponding author with contact details:
    - Full postal address
    - E-mail address
    - Telephone number
  • 2) Main text including:
    • Abstract
    • Keywords
    • Figures, (include relevant captions)
    • Tables (including titles, description, footnotes)
    3) Figures (resolution ≥ 300 dpi) to be submitted separately,(include relevant captions)
    4) Tables to be submitted separately (including titles, description, footnotes)
    5) Supplementary files
    • Ensure all figure and table citations in the text match the files provided
  • Further considerations
    • Manuscript has been 'spell checked' and 'grammar checked'
    • All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa
    • Permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Internet)
    • Relevant declarations of interest have been made
    • Main text, figures, and tables are anonymized and author information is not visible. Read more detailed instructions on how to ensure blind evaluation in the "Download manuscript file" section of the system.

Author Guidelines

All submissions should be sent through the journal website (see instructions, the information of all authors should be added to the system). The manuscript should be processed preferably in Microsoft Word format. The font used is Times New Romain 12 points and the line spacing is 1.5. It is allowed to use italics in the text to emphasize key points. Paragraphs are separated by two line breaks, as headings in the text. The text should be aligned to the left or to both edges. Words are not hyphenated between lines. Measurements and units should be expressed with their exact abbreviations in SI. Please number the pages consecutively beginning with the first page of text. 

Articles can be written in Finnish or English. Finnish articles should include an English abstract. The author must take care of the good language. In scientific articles, the style must be neutral and research-oriented.

Submission of a manuscript is understood to imply that it has not been published (except in abstract form) and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.

The length of the scientific article manuscript is a total of about 25000 characters (include spaces) main text, tables and original figures included.The lenght of the other articles is a total of 9000 characters (include spaces).

Manuscript preparation

Submission items should include title page, abstract, main text, references, and figure legends (if required).

1. Title page

The title page should contain: the title, authors’ names, their academic degrees, present affiliations, and the name of the corresponding author with e-mail address,  phone number,  and acknowledgements. Acknowledgements can include the names of persons who have made substantial contributions to the study but are not included in authorship, and the source of support in the form of grants and/or equipment.

2. Main text

The main text should contain:

a) title

b) an abstract that accurately and concisely describes the purpose, the methods, the results and conclusions of the study in the paper. Abstracts must be limited to 2500 characters

c) a maximum of six key words reflecting the content of the article. These keywords should be from the collection used in MeSH published by the US National Library of Medicine (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html) or General Finnish Ontology (YSO).

Main text (a total of about 25000 characters) should include:

1) Introduction

2) Material and Methods

3) Results

4) Discussion

5) Conclusion

6) References

Subheadings that signpost the presentation are encouraged.

References should be given in the text as numbers in parentheses on the line of order of appearance. At the end of the manuscript references should be given in accordance with the Vancouver system, and listed in the order cited in the text (see Citing Medicine: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK7256/). In the case of several authors list only the first six and add et al.

Tables and Figures (max 4) should be as a part of main text and on a separate page with an appropriate legend and footnotes (if required). Show in the main text the appropriate at which to insert of each table and figure.  The tables must fit on a single page and the font size is 8 pt. The figures should be saved and supplied as PowerPoint or high quality jpeg files to minimum of 300 dpi.

Under the heading ‘Conflict of interest statement’, at the end of the text, all authors are required to disclose any financial and personal relationship that could inappropriately bias their contribution.
