Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • One author has been designated as the corresponding author with contact details:
    • E-mail address
    • Full postal address
  • All necessary files have been uploaded:
    Manuscript:
    • Include keywords
    • All figures (include relevant captions)
    • All tables (including titles, description, footnotes)
    • Ensure all figure and table citations in the text match the files provided
  • Further considerations
    • Manuscript has been 'spell checked' and 'grammar checked'
    • All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa
    • Permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Internet)
    • Relevant declarations of interest have been made

Author Guidelines

Instructions for authors

FinJeHeW is the journal of the Finnish Social and Health Informatics Association and Finnish Society of Telemedicine and eHealth. The main objective of the journal is to support research and promote information and knowledge dissemination on information technology, telemedicine, and related fields. The journal starting 2009 is published on-line four times annually. Access to each of the numbers is free three months after the date of publication (before that only for members of the publishing associations).The  journal is ISSN registered.

FinJeHeW contains editorials, review articles, full text articles, brief reports, and conference reports in Finnish, Swedish and English. Finnish articles should preferably include an English abstract. Submission of a manuscript is understood to imply that it has not been published (except in abstract form) and is not being considered for publication elsewhere. Reprints are, however, accepted with permission of the copyright holder and authors. Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to sign the journal publishing agreement.

All submissions should be sent through the journal website.

Manuscript preparation

Submission items should include title page, abstract, main text, references, and figure legends (if required). The manuscript should be processed preferably in Microsoft Word format, formatted with a font size of 12 points and 1.5 spaced with about 3 cm margins all around. Measurements and units should be expressed with their exact abbreviations in SI. Please number the pages consecutively beginning with the first page of text. Begin each element below on a new page:

Title page

The title page should contain: the title, authors’ names, their academic degrees, present affiliations, and the name of the corresponding author with e-mail address,  phone number, and fax number (if available) and acknowledgements. Acknowledgements can include the names of persons who have made substantial contributions to the study but are not included in authorship, and the source of support in the form of grants and/or equipment.

Manuscript

The manuscript should contain title, an abstract that accurately and concisely describes the purpose, the methods, the results and conclusions of the study in the paper.

Abstracts must be limited to 250 words, and with a maximum of six key words reflecting the content of the article. These keywords should be from the collection used in MeSH published by the US National Library of Medicine (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html).

Main text (a total of about 3500 words) should include Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, and Discussion. Subheadings that signpost the presentation are encouraged.

References should be given in the text as numbers in parentheses on the line of order of appearance. At the end of the manuscript references should be given in accordance with the Vancouver system, and listed in the order cited in the text (see Citing Medicine: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK7256/). In the case of several authors list only the first six and add et al.

Tables and Figures (max 4) should be as a part of main text and on a separate page with an appropriate legend and footnotes (if required). Show in the main text the appropriate at which to insert of each table and figure.  The tables must fit on a single page and the font size is 8 pt. The figures should be saved and supplied as PowerPoint or high quality jpeg files to minimum of 300 dpi.

Brief communications are short study papers organized in the same manner as full-length papers but restricted to about 1600 words, a couple of tables or figures, and up to 15 references

Under the heading ‘Conflict of interest statement’, at the end of the text, all authors are requiredto disclose any financial and personal relationship that could inappropriately bias their contribution

When reporting experiments on human subjects, a statement is required confirming that the procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards of the committee responsible for human experimentation and with the Helsinki Declaration. Also, studies involving non-patient persons, such as observations of professionals’ behavior, should be submitted for approval by an ethics committee, institutional review board or its equivalent.

FinJeHeW welcomes also conference reports as overviews or reporting on presentations of special interest

Authors will be notified via e-mail when a manuscript is ready for publication, and the estimated date.
