The management of Sámi monuments and sites in Norway – The right to a past

Abstract

The article discusses the concept of Sámi monuments and sites. It is important to underline the connection between ancient monuments and Sámi culture in our days. The article further discusses the largely unexplored subject of Sámi prehistory, as well as the management of Sámi monuments and sites carried out by the Sámi Parliament in Norway, and its importance to the Sámi as an indigenous people. The article co ncludes with some thoughts about what a Sámi past may actually express.
