Abstract

The purpose of this article is to identify and analyse the characteristics of responsible communication based on selected literature and business cases. The article focuses on the following questions from ethical and other normative perspectives: What does responsible communication mean especially in companies, governmental and non-governmental organizations? How to communicate responsibly? And what tools are needed for it? What does responsible communication consist of? These questions are examined through philosophical and ethical analysis. Responsibility is defined as committing to and adhering to values that are relevant to society and the common interest. The article distinguishes three ways in which responsibility and communication are interrelated in different organizations. Responsible communication is a generic attribute that describes communication that meets both informational and ethical requirements. Responsibility communication is communication presenting corporate responsibility work and responsibility measures. Communication of responsibility focuses on reporting on the achievements and challenges of corporate responsibility.
