About the Journal
Finnish Journal of Linguistics (FJL) is a refereed general linguistic journal published on an annual basis. It contains previously unpublished, original articles, short essays, or so-called "squibs", book reviews and Lectio Praecursoria.
FJL aims for high quality, international research on all aspects of linguistics. The languages of publication are English, French, German, Finnish, and Swedish. Manuscripts may be submitted throughout the year, but the deadline for each year’s issue is 31 January (31 March for book reviews).
FJL is an open access journal, which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or their institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author, in accordance with the CC BY 4.0 licence. In all its publishing acts FJL engages and pursues to advance the policy of Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity (TENK) and the policy of Finnish Association for Scholarly Publishing (Suomen tiedekustantajien liitto) concerning peer review instructions. FJL is also obliged to store relevant documents during the publishing process (e.g. manuscript versions, review statements, publication decisions and agreements) to its own database. There are no APC fees or other charges.
This publication has received funding for scientific publication through the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV), which is granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
Peer-review process:
Finnish Journal of Linguistics has implemented the label for peer-reviewed scholarly publications of the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies and is committed to following the guidelines for the label. More information available here.
All manuscripts are first evaluated by the editorial team, who will contact the authors on whether the manuscript has been declined or will be sent to peer review. Peer reviews of the FJL are double anonymized. The final decision about publication will be made by the editorial team.
Authors may suggest possible reviewers, however, the editors are not bound by these suggestions.
Indexing:
Finnish Journal of Linguistics is indexed by several international databases, most notably by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Other databases include Elsevier’s Scopus, Jisc open policy finder (formerly Sherpa services), as well as the Cabells directory. Additionally, FJL is indexed by Publication Forum, a classification of publication channels created by the Finnish scientific community to support the quality assessment of academic research, currently at level 1 (of 3).
Digitization Project:
During 2018 and 2019, The Linguistic Association of Finland has digitized the previous volumes of Finnish Journal of Linguistics (formerly SKY Journal of Linguistics) for open access. This concerns the volumes published between 1988–2003 (Vol. 1–16). These digitized papers are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). If you are the author but your paper is not available online, and you would like to have it available on this site, please contact the editorial team (email: sky-journal [at] helsinki.fi).
The digitization work has been financially supported by Suomen tiedekustantajien liitto (the Finnish Association for Scholarly Publishing) and by Kopiosto.
