Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submitted manuscript should not been previously published, nor sent to an another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided to the editors).
  • SQS journal uses double-blind review for its articles. Therefore all information related to the identity of the author have to be removed from the manuscript.

  • SQS journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

    No payments are required from the authors and no publication fee is paid to them.

  • The editor reserves the right to edit articles for content.
  • Each manuscript should contain:

    1. A full title and a subtitle(if any).
    2. All articles have to have an abstract not exceeding 1 200–1 500 characters.
    3. Full text to be clearly organized, with a logical hierarchy of headings and subheadings. Please follow the suggested lengths according to the section policies. Sections of the SQS-journal are:

    - QueerScope: Articles (peer-reviewed)
    Section includes peer-reviewed research based articles. Article length should not exceed 70 000 characters with spaces.

    - Queer Mirror: Opinion Pieces
    Section includes board-reviewed opinion pieces, essays and review articles. Opinion piece length should not exceed 35 000 characters with spaces.

    - Queer View Mirror: Reports and Commentaries
    Section includes short reports, columns or manifests on current issues. Commentary should not exceed 21 000 characters with spaces.

    - Queer Lens: Art Gallery

    - Lectio Praecursoria
    Lectio Praecursoria is an introductory lecture given by the candidate in the public defence of a doctoral thesis in Finland.

    - Queer Eye: Reviews
    Section includes book reviews and reviews of other works relevant to the scope of the journal. Book review length should not exceed 10 000 characters with spaces.

    4. References. SQS uses The Chicago Manual of Style, sixteenth edition, as its main reference. The journal uses the author-date system (NOT notes and bibliography) for documentation. For a quick reference, please click here.

  • The submission file has to be in Microsoft Word .doc/.docx or .rtf document file format.

Author Guidelines

 

All manuscripts are submitted to SQS-Journal through this site that uses the Open Journal Systems -platform. Authors have to register before submitting. You can find detailed instructions for the submission process here.
