Abstrakti

There are two handwritten Russian-Vot (= Russian-Udmurt) dictionaries which are kept in the scientific archives of the Udmurt Institute of History, Language and Literature of the Ural branch of the Russian Academy of Science. Probably they were compiled by the Udmurt scholar G. J. Vereščagin in the end of the 19th and in the beginning of the 20th century. In the manuscripts the scholar used the Russian graphic of that period of time and some Latin letters such as i and q (used only in the second volume of the dictionary’s manuscript and basically in Russian and Latin words, in Udmurt they are used in single instances) and j.
