Abstrakti

The theme in this volume of Ethnologia Fennica is empowering practices and the modernization of the Finnish countryside. All the articles are based on the studies conducted in two research projects led by Professor Laura Stark. ln the introductory article, she outlines theoretical starting points, concepts and objectives shared by the writers of thie articles. The Finnish countryside is encountered through changes taking place between the mid-19th century and the 1960s, as the predominantly agrarian country shifted towards an industrialized and urban society.
