Abstract

This article examines the psychosocial approach, from the perspective of being encountered, based on two data corpus: suicides of young people as narrated by their parents and the narratives of women who have been living at the margins of society. The methodological approach is based on narrative interview research and phenomenologically-oriented experience research. Two narrative entities were constructed based on the original data corpus that spans over nearly 40 years: The Psychiatric Development Narrative and the Narrative of Homelessness. These narratives show the importance of psychosocial approach in situations that involve extensive marginalisation, as well as in situations where the person is financially well-off but is burdened by traumatic experiences, so that the meanings given by the client to their subjective experiences can be reached in the interaction between the client and the worker. It is justified to include trauma-sensitive expertise as part of psychosocial work in social work education.
