An integrative literature review on community-based violence in Muslim communities and the role of social work in working with Muslim families
Abstract
This article delves into an area of violence that research has overlooked. Specifically, it analyzes how Muslim communities reflect community-based violence and the crucial role social work plays in supporting Muslim families affected by it. The study is based on an integrative review of 24 scientific studies conducted in English. The research is structured around three fundamental questions, and the data was thoroughly analyzed using content analysis. The study results indicate that community-based violence has unique characteristics that require further consideration. While religious and cultural traditions can contribute to enabling violence, they can also be leveraged to prevent and mitigate it. The increasing diversity of Muslim communities and their growing presence in Western countries highlights the need for culturally and religiously sensitive social work practices and interventions.
