The importance of integrating information and communication technologies (ICT) in translator and interpreter training programmes is well recognized today. This article discusses the advantages and challenges of using ICT, specifically virtual learning environments, in teaching. It focuses on interaction, which is a major challenge in online learning. The study was conducted in a virtual course organized as part of the community interpreters training program at the Diakonia University of Applied Sciences. During this pilot course I analysed how students reach learning objectives through their interaction with the learning content. The results of the pilot course showed that the learning process was managed successfully, and also demonstrated how important good instructions for assignments are in the process of distance learning.
