About the Journal

Aims and scope

Suomen antropologi: Journal of the Finnish Anthropological Society publishes scholarly articles, review articles, research reports, critical essays, conference reports, book reviews, and news and information in the field of anthropology and related studies generally.

We particularly encourage the use of Suomen antropologi as a publishing venue for material by scholars working outside the academic mainstream—whether from other ‘small countries’ like Finland or non-English speaking countries, those working in new or under-represented research areas or those wishing to present innovative theoretical or substantive findings

Two recently instituted submission categories are the Interview and Forum sections. We welcome transcribed interviews with scholars of prominence for the holistic insights on the anthropological project they so frequently provide, and for the encouragement and inspiration they almost always offer to young and flagging anthropologists. Likewise we are very pleased to receive short, provocative opinion-pieces, reports and ‘blog-style’ contributions to our Forum—polemic, in a word—which is sometimes themed around a particular problem or field. Both formats are designed to remind our contributors and readers of the human subject within the anthropologist.

The language of the journal is English except in special circumstances. The views expressed in the journal are those of the authors, and they are not necessarily shared by the editors or by the Finnish Anthropological Society.

The articles of Suomen antropologi are indexed in the Royal Anthropological Index online, Anthropological Index to Current Periodicals, Anthropological Literature, An Index to Periodicals, Articles and Essays, MLA International Bibliography, ARTO, and CNKI Scholar. Suomen Antropologi is also listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
