Author Guidelines

Scientific articles

Scientific articles related to religions, beliefs, and education can be offered for publication in the journal. Scientific articles can be empirical, theoretical, or methodological writings. The articles are sent out before the publication decision to a referee round to ensure their scientific quality. The assessment of research articles follows the conditions set for the peer review identifier.

The maximum length of articles is 50,000 characters including spaces, footnotes and bibliography. Articles must be of high scientific quality and written in a popular and interesting manner.

The manuscripts are sent to the Editor-in-Chief and the subeditor without unnecessary formulations. In addition to the main title, two-level titles are allowed. Intermediate headings are not numbered. Abbreviations are not used in the bread text. In parentheses and footnotes, abbreviations can be used. Italics can be used judiciously as a raise. Follow the accessibility guidelines for picture, figure, and tabular texts.

Attach a 100-150 word abstract  in (Finnish and) English to the article, as well as the descriptors (3-5 words) according to the general lexicon (YSA) to Finnish in alphabetical order. The English summary should be checked by a language reviser.

In scientific articles and reviews, footnotes are used. We follow the style of theology. The style of theology is available in the RefWorks reference management program as Helsinki 3.

Attach a short author presentation at the end of the article, showing the author's degree, email, job title, and university or workplace. The presentation may also be accompanied by a brief description of the author's field of research or by a possible funding body. The length of the presentation is 1-2 sentences.

The evaluation of the articles follows the peer review (double blind) of the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies. For peer review purposes, the manuscripts of articles submitted to the journal must be anonymized (all references to identity must be removed). Each article is sent for evaluation to two reviewers. The reviewers are researchers or other experts who are outside the editorial board and are independent of the manuscript under review. Expert testimonials are sent to the writer of the manuscript. The corrected manuscript should be sent to the editor within the given schedule. If the article offered for publication is not published, the author will be notified without delay. The peer review process is documented in accordance with TSV guidelines.

Reviews

Brief research-related articles are published in the Reviews section. They can be, for example, dissertations, research presentations, current research reviews, scientific writings that are more concise than the research article, or speeches in the field of religion, outlook and education.

The maximum length of the reviews is 15,000 characters with spaces unless otherwise agreed with the delivery. Lections are published as edited. The date and place of the dissertation and the opponent must be included.

The texts published in the Review section, like scientific articles, use footnotes and follow the style of theology. Includes information about the author as in scientific articles. A summary is not required.

Send your proposal for the texts to be published in the review section to the Editor-in-Chief and subeditor.

Book Reviews

The books to be evaluated may be works related to the field of religion, outlook and education in Finnish or foreign languages. Please contact the editor if you have a book in mind that you would like to write a review about. Please also contact us if you would like to have your own book reviewed. Book reviews are writings without citations and a bibliography.
