The publication series is aimed at a wide audience: In addition to members of the Academy, their colleagues abroad and researchers in various fields, the target audience includes everyone interested in science and research. Articles are accepted in Finnish, Swedish and English.

PEER REVIEW PRACTICES

Articles submitted for publication must be sent anonymously. All articles submitted to the journal undergo peer review using a double-blind procedure: authors and reviewers do not know each other's identities. Two experts in the field serve as reviewers, and the publication decision is made based on peer review. Reviewers are external to the editorial board and are independent researchers or other experts in the field.

The process begins when the editor-in-chief reviews the submitted article. Based on their reading, the editor-in-chief may reject the article or request changes from the author before sending it for external review. The editor-in-chief is responsible for selecting and contacting the reviewers. He/She may consult the publication's editorial board in their selections. Editorial board members do not know the identities of the authors.

Published articles may address current issues in the author's research field, new developments, or the author's ongoing research. The peer review process evaluates the comprehensiveness of the data, theoretical framework, as well as the article's interest to non-specialists in the field.

Each reviewer either recommends accepting the article as is, accepting it with specified changes, or rejecting it. Reviewer comments are sent to the author, who is expected to make any necessary revisions to their article. Only the editorial secretary and the editor-in-chief know the author's identity during the review process. The editor-in-chief makes the final decision on publication, taking into account the views of the peer reviewers.

Articles are submitted and the peer review process is managed through the journal.fi platform. Reviewers' names, submitted reviews, and publication recommendations are stored on the platform for all reviewed manuscripts. The stored information is not public. By agreeing to review an article, the reviewer accepts the peer review practices of the AASF publication and the documentation process. The privacy policy of the Journal.fi service can be reviewed online: the privacy policy.

Unlike scientific articles, editorials, reviews, etc. are handled internally by the editorial team and may be published without peer review.
