Author Guidelines

Instructions for authors

Annales Academiae Scientiarum Fennicae is a multidisciplinary publication that appears twice a year. AASF offers a forum for articles where scientists present current questions and challenges in their fields to people interested in science and its advancement. The publication series is ideal for reviews and anticipatory articles, multidisciplinary summaries and comments on science policy, for example.

Submissions are accepted throughout the year. Articles are accepted in Finnish, Swedish and English.

Submitted manuscripts are processed in meetings of the editorial team that take place twice a year. Furthermore, all articles go through a double-blind peer review process.

Technical instructions

Manuscripts are submitted using the journal.fi platform.

The recommended maximum length of an article, complete with images and references, is 10 A4-sized pages (excluding the bibliography). The article should be accompanied by an English abstract of a maximum of 100 words.

Possible image files must be sent in conjunction with the manuscript as separate files of the highest possible quality (e.g., as JPG or PDF files). A maximum of two heading levels is recommended: main headline and subheadings.

All articles undergo a double-blind peer review process. Ensure that the manuscript and its sections are anonymised prior to submission. Also remember to remove the author’s name from the headline and possible footers.

The comments received in peer review must be taken into account when finishing the article.

References

References adhere to the APA referencing style (7th gen.).

When marking references, use the language the article is written in. References are placed in the text in parenthesis, and they must include the author’s name and year of publication. Page numbers are only mentioned when the reference is a direct quote. More detailed information is included in the bibliography at the end of the article.

In English for example:

  • Example, E. (2022). Book title. Publisher.
  • Example, E. (2022). Article title. In W. Writer & R. Researcher (Eds.), Book title (pp. xx–xx). Publisher.
  • Writer A. & Writer, B. (2022). Article title. Journal name, 12(1), 11–33 (Volume, isuue or number, page numbers). doi:xx.xxxxxxxxxx

If there is a DOI identifier, it is included at the end of the reference.
