Abstract

This article examines the experiences of education leaders in designing and managing preparatory education for programmes leading to an upper secondary education (TUVA) in a process of change. Kovalainen’s (2020) model of change in a pedagogically led community is used as a framework. For the article, eleven educational leaders were interviewed who led the planning of TUVA in their own educational institutions. The data was analysed using a theoretical content analysis. The objective of the managers interviewed was to create a common understanding and a shared will to enable change. The leaders sought to create a framework and platform for collaboration, after which the responsibility for designing and implementing training would be given to teachers. If successful, the new training was seen as bringing new, wider opportunities for training students. The experience of change leadership will, at its best, strengthen the organisation’s competence in change management.
