Abstrakti

This article examines how a formal mentoring
programme could enhance learning in a
university context. The focus is on the
experienced quality of the relationship between
mentors and mentees, and the pedagogical
solutions offered. We present findings from 18
semi-structured interviews conducted with
mentors and mentees taking part in a mentoring
programme organized jointly by The University of
Turku and Turku School of Economics in 2005.
The findings show that both parties recognized
learning as an important outcome of their
participation, although the mentees more
frequently described their learning in the
interviews, and in more diverse ways. The
programme proved to provide sufficient support
to ali participants. We conclude by suggesting
that learning opportunities should be targeted
equally at mentors and mentees in order to
ensure the meaningfulness and quality of the
interaction.
