This article reviews organizational discourse
analysis as a methodological perspective that
is linked to network and social capital
perspectives in the study of work organization.
This article is a theoretical and methodological
analysis. The article addresses the question of
how to use discourse analysis as a method to
study organizational social capital empirically.
The main question of my example study was
how is the social capital that is needed in
developing academic organization structured.
The article argues that only low-level
collaboration and knowledge sharing are
possible when developing academic
organizations. The example shows that an
organizational discourse analysis contributes
both to organizational social capital studies and
general organization studies by giving them a
methodological approach that is able to handle
social organizations in a way that emphasizes
mutual understanding and interaction between
the actors.
