MASCULINITY IN THE CITY STRATEGY FOR
TRADE ANO COMMERCE - the invisible gender of
strategic management
This paper explores the connections between
masculinity and strategic management. After
introducing a discourse perspective on studying
strategy as a text, a framework for theorizing gender
and masculinity as 'doing' is introduced. ln the
second part, city strategy text for trade and
commerce is analysed. The analysis shows that
masculinity is intertwined with instrumentality,
rationality, competitivity and domination of strategic
management.
