THE USE OF THE JOB DIAGNOSTIC SURVEY
IN JOB EVALUATION

This study investigated the Finnish version of the
Job Diagnostic Survey (JDS) and its useability.
The theoretical background and the structure of
the questionnaire are reviewed. There were three
stages in the development of the method. ln each
stage the factorial structure of the items were
studied and changed. ln the Finnish data two
dimensions received the lowest ratings: Feedback
from agents and pay. ln the Finnish work culture
there seem to be a lack of positive rewards
among supervisors and leaders. The need of
training is emphasized. The use of the JDS as a
tool in sociotechnical change is also discussed.
