Abstrakti

Leadership research suffers from the absence of proper leadership theory. This article identifies methodological practices partly responsible for this state of affairs and draws out seven culprits: transfering concepts and theories from other disciplines; taking introduction of new perspectives to leadership as developments in leadership theory; approaching leadership as something it is not; seeing the definition of the concept of leadership as the main task; turning to practitioners as co-producers and main evaluators of leadership theory; characterising leadership in terms of its contrasts to management; and applying moral principles in demarcating true leadership.
