The implementation of Lean thinking and its organizational cultural factors in public hospital

This article focuses on how organizational cultural factors emerge in process improvement of Lean thinking in Lapland Hospital District. Organizational cultural factors refer to cultural diversity as well as to professions and hierarchical relationships within the public hospital. The article shows that Lean thinking has strengthened service thinking, staff-driven development and the collective culture. The culture of continuous improvement is seen to evolve over a longer period. Organizational cultural factors
both slow down and promote the goals of Lean thinking. By paying attention to both aspects and, by renewing cultural structures, process efficiency can be promoted.
