From patient to consumer? Health and
social care clientships’ structural change
in media 2007–2017
In this article, we study the consumer portraits
of the social and health services users in the
Finnish media. Basing on the consumer research
and in the study of health and social services, the
article attempts to build a picture of the Finnish
user’s role in the health and social care. The
study was conducted utilising the methods of
the computational social science. Three different
user portraits were found: patient, citizen and
market. The popularity of these portraits appears in the same order. Based on the results, the
emphasising of the user portrait has increased
between the years 2007–2017.
